Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are commonly used to limit excessive pain and inflammation. The most common forms of NSAIDs in Australia are Voltaren, Ibuprofen, Naprosyn, Celebrex, and Diclofenac. However, a growing concern over the increasing number of the drugs’ side effects and reactions with other medications has prompted the need to search for safer and more natural alternatives…
Typical Side Effects of Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
- Increased risk of heart attack and stroke
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach ulcers, and bleeding
- Disturbances to your blood cell production
- Rashes, itching, swelling of the skin, aspirin-induced asthma
- Kidney damage and failure
- Liver damage
- Headaches, dizziness, nervousness, depression, drowsiness, insomnia
- Hearing disturbances, vertigo
- Impairs the healing and return of strength to injured muscles, bones, ligaments, and tendons
Fortunately, there is a safer and more natural alternative that has been proven to work just as well as NSAIDs without the side effects—it is called Traumeel.
Traumeel is a fixed combination of diluted plant and mineral extracts in a topical cream. It has been available over the counter in Germany for over 60 years and in Austria for over 40 years, and is currently available in approximately 50 countries. The combination is currently used to treat acute musculoskeletal injuries, such as sprains and traumatic injuries, and as supportive therapy in pain and inflammation of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Lanthois found it extremely helpful when he used it on his face after he fell and fractured his right cheekbone in 6 places.
The ingredients of Traumeel have been used for many years for therapeutic purposes (listed below). Traumeel was developed by the German physician, Dr. Hans-Heinrich Reckeweg in the 1930s; he combined botanical and mineral substances to produce this natural medicine to treat musculoskeletal injuries and inflammation.
As reported by Christian Schneider in the International Journal of General Medicine (2011:4 225-324), “Traumeel may be considered as an anti-inflammatory agent that is at least as effective as NSAIDs, in terms of reducing symptoms of inflammation, accelerating recovery, and improving mobility but appears to be better tolerated than NSAIDs.”
Traumeel is frequently used for a variety of injuries, including:
- bruises to bone and/or muscle
- sprains
- swelling
- degenerative and inflammatory conditions such as back, neck, and shoulder pain
- ankle sprains
- tendonitis
- knee strains
- frozen shoulder
- tennis elbow
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- arthritis
To use Traumeel, rub a small amount of the cream over the injured or painful area 2-5 times/day. Avoid applying it over open wounds or cuts.
The great news is that the studies have shown that Traumeel is well tolerated with very few side effects, with the most severe being a temporary, mild redness or itching in 1 in 200 people. Importantly, there have been no reports of Traumeel reacting with other medications, making it a valuable option for those who have other medical conditions and are taking other medications.
